Concept

Flat Real Estate reimagines the property search experience by stripping away visual clutter and focusing on what matters most: beautiful homes presented with honesty and clarity. The design philosophy is rooted in the belief that finding a home should feel exciting, not overwhelming.

  • Minimalist card-based layouts that let property photography take center stage
  • A warm, approachable tone that balances professionalism with friendliness
  • Intuitive filtering and search tools designed around real buyer behavior
  • Seamless transitions between browsing, comparing, and contacting agents

Colors & style

  • Primary palette: crisp white backgrounds with natural green (#4CAF50) accents symbolizing growth and new beginnings
  • Secondary tones: warm grays and soft beige for a welcoming, residential feel
  • Typography: geometric sans-serif for headings paired with a humanist sans-serif for body text
  • Photography style: bright, naturally lit interior and exterior shots with consistent color grading

Design process

The process started with user research — interviewing first-time homebuyers, real estate agents, and property investors to understand their pain points and priorities. These insights shaped every design decision, from the information architecture to the micro-interactions that make browsing feel effortless.

Problem

Most real estate websites suffer from information overload, cluttered interfaces, and poor mobile experiences that frustrate users during one of the most important decisions of their lives.

  • Existing platforms overwhelm users with too many listings, ads, and irrelevant information on every page
  • Search and filter tools are often unintuitive, requiring users to navigate complex multi-step forms
  • Property details are poorly organized, forcing users to scroll through walls of unstructured text
  • Mobile experiences are often afterthoughts, with desktop layouts awkwardly squeezed onto smaller screens

Buyers need a platform that respects their time and guides them toward the right property with minimal friction — not one that buries them in noise.

Solution

I designed a responsive web experience that puts property photography and key details front and center, supported by smart filtering, clean typography, and a layout system that adapts gracefully across all devices.

  • Created a card-based listing grid with progressive disclosure — showing essential details at a glance with expandable sections for deeper information
  • Designed an intelligent filter sidebar with visual indicators, saved searches, and real-time result counts
  • Built detailed property pages with a structured layout: hero gallery, key stats, description, floor plans, neighborhood info, and agent contact
  • Developed a fully responsive system with mobile-first breakpoints ensuring a native-app-like experience on phones and tablets

Website Designs

The final deliverables include complete website designs for desktop, tablet, and mobile — covering the homepage, property listing pages, detailed property views, search and filter interfaces, agent profiles, and contact forms. The package also includes a comprehensive design system with component documentation, interaction specifications, and a style guide ensuring consistent implementation across all pages and future feature additions.

In detail

Web Design

The web design balances aesthetic appeal with functional clarity, creating a platform that feels both premium and accessible.

  • Designed a complete design system with reusable components for listings, cards, forms, and navigation
  • Created a visual hierarchy that guides users naturally from search to discovery to action
  • Implemented subtle animations and transitions that add polish without slowing the experience
  • Maintained accessibility standards with proper contrast ratios, focus states, and semantic structure
UI/UX Design

Every interface element was designed to reduce cognitive load and help users make confident decisions faster.

  • Mapped complete user flows for buyers, renters, and agents to ensure each persona has an optimized path
  • Designed interactive prototypes and tested them with real users to validate navigation patterns
  • Created a comparison tool allowing users to place properties side-by-side on key metrics
  • Built a favorites and saved search system that encourages return visits and deeper engagement
Responsive Layout

The layout system was engineered to deliver a consistent, high-quality experience across every screen size.

  • Designed mobile-first with four breakpoints: mobile, tablet portrait, tablet landscape, and desktop
  • Created adaptive grid systems that reflow content gracefully without losing information hierarchy
  • Optimized touch targets, swipe gestures, and scroll behavior for mobile and tablet interactions
  • Tested across 12 device configurations to ensure pixel-perfect rendering and smooth performance
Property Showcase

The property detail pages are designed to replicate the feeling of an in-person viewing — immersive, informative, and emotionally engaging.

  • Designed full-bleed image galleries with lightbox viewing, keyboard navigation, and thumbnail strips
  • Created structured detail sections for specifications, amenities, floor plans, and neighborhood data
  • Built interactive map integrations showing nearby schools, transit, shopping, and points of interest
  • Designed virtual tour entry points with clear CTAs and preview thumbnails
User Research

Research was the foundation of every design decision, ensuring the platform serves real needs rather than assumptions.

  • Conducted 15 in-depth interviews with homebuyers, renters, and real estate agents
  • Analyzed competitor platforms to identify common UX patterns and opportunities for differentiation
  • Created user personas and journey maps that informed the information architecture and feature prioritization
  • Ran usability testing sessions with interactive prototypes, iterating based on observed behavior and feedback
